Environment

We're deeply committed to environmental responsibility, educating our
staff and guests to minimize our impact. Whether it's a weekend in the hills or a major expedition, our "leave only footprints" ethos guides us. We were pioneers in clean-up expeditions on Mount Everest, focusing on waste reduction and recycling. As a Registered Guide/Outfitter with 'Leave No Trace,' we maintain high standards and strive for waste minimization. Our sustainability vision extends beyond the environment to social and economic prosperity in the communities we engage with. Adventure Consultants aspires to lead in Sustainable Tourism, exemplified by our commitment to the New Zealand Tourism Sustainability Pledge by 2025, balancing economic growth with environmental and social wellbeing.

Sustainability

Adventure Consultants demonstrates a commitment to sustainability through various practices across its operations. Strategies such as employing lightweight semi-permanent base camps that are disassembled after each season and utilizing solar-powered systems in the Himalaya showcase efforts to preserve natural environments. We use locally sourced products and minimise wastage on international expeditions. We advocate for sustainable tourism within the mountain guiding community, supporting local initiatives, promoting responsible adventure travel and environmental stewardship.

Our vision for sustainability encompasses more than protecting, enhancing and restoring the natural environment in which we work and live, but also extends to the economic and social prosperity of those communities we're involved with, from the slopes of Kilimanjaro to the mountains of Nepal and New Zealand.

Our expeditions to Antarctica are governed by the IAATO Treaty and we comply with all aspects of the Protocol on Environmental Protection to the Antarctic Treaty. Our sustainability practices collectively aim to preserve Antarctica's fragile ecosystems and pristine landscapes, safeguarding this unique environment for future exploration and research.

Social Responsibility

Our travels undeniably impact the places we visit, but respectful interactions, avoiding the imposition of our values, can lead to valuable exchanges. Adventure Consultants sets itself apart from profit-driven operators by keeping groups small, fostering personalized and non-intrusive experiences. We prioritize the well-being of our staff, supporting porter protection initiatives such as the International Mountain Explorers Connection

As Visionary Society Members of the dZi Foundation, we contribute to the betterment of local communities in the mountain communities of Nepal, and we encourage our clients to join in these impactful efforts. Please consider supporting these charities who ARE making a tangible difference.

Sherpa Future Fund

Adventure Consultants established the Sherpa Future Fund in response to the tragic events that occurred with the Khumbu Glacier Avalanche in 2014 and the Nepal Earthquake and subsequent Base Camp Avalanche in 2015. Adventure Consultants lost nine valued staff members in these events and the Sherpa Future Fund has been established to provide ongoing support in rebuilding the lives of their families left behind and providing education for their children.

If you would also like to contribute to the ongoing support of these families you can do so by sending donations directly through to Adventure Consultants Sherpa Future Fund. We thank you for your generosity in caring for these people at this time and please know that these efforts will make a real difference.
